Areas of Expertise
Counseling
Counseling refers to short-term therapeutic treatment. It typically deals with present issues that are easily resolved on the conscious level whereas psychotherapy intensively and extensively examines a person's psychologiacal history.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
CBT helps one to recognize the patterns of thinking and behavior that cause you problems. CBT teaches you practical ways to learn and re-learn more helpful and healthy habits. The aim is to change and break the habit of negative thinking. CBT focuses on goals and is specific to the individual. It is centered on solving current issues.
Psychotherapy
Psychotherapy is the process that helps a person look at long-standing attitudes, thoughts, and behaviors that have resulted in the current quality of one's life and relationships. It goes much deeper to uncover root causes of problems, resulting in more dramatic change in perspective regarding oneself, one's life experience, and the world in general.
My Approach
The primary approach I use is "Client-Centered" where the client is the expert of his/her own difficulties. My role is to provide a non-judgmental and safe space for the client to gain understanding and awareness while helping him/her navigate personal growth and development.

In addition to client-centered therapy, I also utilize "Reality Therapy" to assist clients in accepting responsibility for psychological symptoms that occur due to a person's behaviors and choices and not because of mental health conditions. My role is to help clients accept responsibility for these behaviors and choose more desirable actions that enable them to connect with others. This is where CBT comes into play.

I have 25 years of experience working with individuals and families who are going through life transitions or crisis. I have extensive experience working with the foster care system, Child Welfare Services, human services departments, family court, military families, individuals dealing with incarceration, family violence, mental health issues, divorce, custody and drug/alcohol addictions.

I am honored to work with my clients and I am constantly inspired by each and every one of them. I take pride in adapting my approach to the needs of each client and I welcome all backgrounds, preferences, and identities.
